Dr. Terry Smith joined the Mae Tao Clinic in 2003, and became a resident physician in 2004. He provides obstetric care to displaced Burmese women and infants and also trains clinic staff in the latest medical techniques. In addition to his work in the clinic, Dr. Terry has been working with local public health services to improve systems of care in the Burma-Thailand border area.
Dr. Terry has an impressive background, with eight years of experience in a rural family practice and numerous publications. He has been teaching at the University of California Davis Medical Center since 1982 and spent seven years heading the Public Policy Section of the Maternal and Child Health Branch for the California Department of Heath Services. Before joining the Mae Tao Clinic, Dr. Terry served as a clinician and advisor for international humanitarian organization Doctors of the World. With experience working in Mexico, Vietnam, Panama, Bangladesh and Honduras, Dr. Terry is an excellent addition the team.
