Every day, GHAP doctors are doing amazing work on the Burma/Thai border. Some of them have written up their impressions to share with us. "Bargaining for Public Health" -- by Anusha Dahanayake Promoting public health and hygiene may seem less glamorous than providing dramatic medical treatments. In the end, though, it is public health educationthat paves the way for long term improvements and gives the power and responsibility of health back to the people. "Needs on the Border" -- by Tom Lee, MD The needs of people living in the border area and jungle regions are many and varied, and can intersect in ways that are not always obvious. This story of a 6-month-old girl, an inpatient at the small bamboo hut serving as a village clinic, illustrates some of the issues involved. "Tragedy of Land Mines" -- by Tom Lee and Grace Baek Landmine victims are all too common on the border. This story vivdly describes how a victim found treatment at the Mae Tao Clinic. In the process, it also shows how different organizations such as GHAP and Planet Care (formerly BRCP) work together to provide aid.
